The Taste of Blessing

On June 24, two powerful earthquakes struck Venezuela. Thousands of people lost their homes, among them Marley from Caracas. CBN has been on the ground ever since, helping families get back on their feet.

From Receiving Help to Giving Help

After the earthquakes, Marley’s apartment in Caracas, Venezuela’s capital, was declared uninhabitable. From then on, she lived in a tent camp, not knowing what would come next.

But Marley refused to give up. She got to know the team of Operation Blessing, CBN’s humanitarian organization, and soon decided to volunteer herself. Before long, she was almost part of the team. She rolled up her sleeves, determined to build a new life. Friends helped her with appliances and basic necessities. Only one thing was missing: a way to earn a living.

A Dream Takes Shape

Marley dreamed of selling arepas and cachapas, two traditional Venezuelan dishes. This would give her an income until she was back on her feet.

The team decided to make this dream come true and support her in setting up a small business. Projects like this help revive parts of the shattered infrastructure. The delivery of the food cart was delayed by several days. But Marley remained hopeful: “God is in control, and He knows best. The cart will come at the right time.”

Then the day arrived. Along with the food cart, Marley received ingredients, cookware, a refrigerator, drinks, a standing menu board, a table, stools, and a tent – everything she needed to get started. She named her business “El Sabor de la Bendición” – “The Taste of the Blessing.”

More Than a Food Cart

For Marley, this cart is much more than a business. She can provide for herself again. And after losing her home, she can now look ahead once more.

Johanna Frommann of CBN Germany served in Venezuela and met Marley in person: “When our team said goodbye to Marley, she was in tears. You could really feel that this work is more than practical help. It is also emotional support in working through what happened. Our people became pastoral caregivers for her.”

How You Help Rebuild Dreams in Venezuela

Marley is one of many. Since the earthquakes, CBN has been on the ground to support the people there. The focus has now shifted from life-saving emergency relief to rebuilding.

So far, CBN has been able to, among other things:

  • distribute 340,920 meals
  • provide 95,190 liters of water
  • distribute 1,101 water filters and build 3 larger water systems
  • hold 25 Superbook events so children can regain a sense of normalcy

Thanks to compassionate donors like you, Marley can take a step toward a more hopeful future. What began in uncertainty is becoming a new beginning – one arepa and cachapa at a time.

With your donation, you help people like Marley start over after disasters. Thank you for your support!
