Advancing the Kingdom of God
The Impact of Donating
After coming to faith at the age of 60, Gudrun and Thomas Schumann began to see the importance of giving. Since 2019, the couple have been partners with CBN and are committed to humanitarian work. Mr. Schuhmann was gracious to answer a few questions for us.
What inspired you to donate?
When donating became important to us, we came across ERLEBT TV and knew that this was exactly what we wanted to get involved in.
And then came confirmation from the Lord, at least as we understand it, through Ecclesiastes 11:1: “Cast your bread upon the waters, for you will find it after many days” (LUT) . When we give, we store up God’s goodness and favor, which God can draw on when we ourselves are in need to meet our needs. That is exactly what you do at CBN. It is wonderful that we can be part of this as your partners.
What has changed for you since you started donating?
At first, it was painful for me. I had to completely relearn how to handle money in God’s kingdom. We are only stewards. I realized that I had sought security for myself and my family in money and was on the path to becoming greedy, selfish, hard-hearted, and ungrateful. It is as Jesus says: You cannot serve two masters at the same time. Since then, we have experienced how wonderful it is to cast our cares on God. He provides for us.
What does giving mean to you today?
Nothing touches us more deeply than seeing the joy in the eyes of the people who receive help. We can hardly wait for the reports on humanitarian aid. The experiences with children touch our hearts the most.
Jesus himself says that whatever we do for the needy, the underprivileged, the children, the disadvantaged, we do for HIM. Jesus takes it personally. It is so beautiful to thank the Lord in this very individual way. And then something happens to us. We realize how often we take things for granted that are a huge deal for others. We return to an attitude of gratitude. We are freed from our selfishness.
That is why we are so grateful to be partners in your ministry. We will continue to sow good seeds together with you to advance the kingdom of God.
Why do you donate to humanitarian causes?
All aid must be help for self-help; that is true sustainability. People are given a lasting future for their families, and we treat them with dignity. We believe that every person wants to shape their own future, and we provide start-up assistance and support to help them do so.
Thanks to its global network, CBN is able to achieve the best possible results at all times with the resources available. And CBN never puts pressure on donors by making them feel guilty, but instead asks for help by letting those affected speak for themselves. We believe without a doubt that Jesus works through CBN and, just as he did 2,000 years ago when he fed the 4,000 people, he multiplies our gifts in a supernatural way.
