An extraordinary childhood dream comes true

How God fulfilled Esther’s dream of donating

Esther Idahor longed to donate to CBN for a long time. What at first sounds unusual lies hidden in her life story.

Esther grew up in Nigeria. At the age of nine, she watched the American version of the television program Club700 (the German counterpart of the program was long known by the same name. Today it is called ERLEBT TV.) The stories about what people experienced with God and how they received help inspired her. She wanted to support this, but her family lived in poverty. They only had something to eat once a day. She prayed to God for a better life.

She then fled to Germany in 2003. At the time, she could have been deported at any time. She was not allowed to work, but in the asylum home she was given something to eat three times a day, had a roof over her head and always had hot and cold running water. That made her very grateful. But she wanted to work and earn money so that she could give something back. She also wanted to belong to the country that had done her so much good. She often called the American CBN prayer hotline to pray for German citizenship.

More than ten years later, Esther finally got a work permit and worked as a cleaner. For the first time, she donated five euros a month from her small salary to CBN Germany.

However, she longed to do more and volunteered in care facilities and asylum shelters. This enabled her to train as a care worker and later as a care assistant. Her income – and the amount she donated – increased with each professional station. She had grown up so poor and now she was able to support others. This thought made her very grateful. One night she dreamt of people calling out to Jesus. This inspired her to offer prayer to the people entrusted to her care. This is how Esther wants to bring them into contact with God’s love.

This year, she completed further training as a nurse. During this training, she was able to apply for German citizenship. She prays that God will also fulfill this dream. She now works in a hospital. Her motivation to meet people with God’s love and tell them about Jesus has grown steadily – as has her contribution to the kingdom of God. “For when I was hungry, you gave me food. When I was thirsty, you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger among you, and you took me in. I will say this to you: whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers or sisters of mine, you did for me!” (Matthew 25:35, 40; HFA)
