Cleft Lip Surgery Enables a Little Boy to Lead a Normal Life<\/h2>\n

KENYA \u2013 As Daphine holds her newborn in her arms, she feels deep love \u2014 but also fear, because her baby looks different from the others. Little Dinan has a deep cleft lip.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhen Dinan was born, I didn\u2019t know what to do,\u201d Daphine shared quietly. \u201cI had never seen a child with a cleft lip before. I was confused\u2026 even scared.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

People stared. Some sneered. Others asked painful questions that made her heart sink.<\/span>
\n\u201cI stopped going out,\u201d she said. \u201cI felt ashamed because everywhere I went, people looked at my baby like something was wrong with him. It hurt me so much.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Problems with sleeping and eating<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Every day came with a new struggle. Feeding Dinan was difficult, each swallow felt like a fight for breath.<\/span> \u201cHe would choke, or gasp, or cry,\u201d she recalled. \u201cMost nights we didn\u2019t sleep. He was always sick; colds, flu.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As a single mother, running a home and having to care for Dinan full time became overwhelming. <\/span>\u201cI had to stop working. Who would I leave him with?\u201d she explained. \u201cI was depending on friends, borrowing for food. Many nights, I slept hungry. I just prayed every day that one day he would be normal, like other children.<\/strong>\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A Mother’s Heart at Ease<\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

When Operation Blessing heard about Dinan\u2019s situation, your generosity made it possible for him to receive the life-changing cleft lip surgery he desperately needed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI never imagined this day would come,\u201d Daphine said with a smile. \u201cWhen I look at Dinan now, I see a healthy, happy child.<\/strong> He looks just like other children. My heart is at peace.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dinan now eats without struggling. He sleeps through the night. He even began walking confidently,\u201d something I feared would never happen.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like a burden was lifted from my shoulders<\/strong>,\u201d she said. \u201cI am no longer stressed or worried all the time. I can work again and even take him to daycare with peace in my heart.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou helped my child. You helped\u202fme. I don\u2019t have enough words to thank you.<\/strong> May God bless you for giving my son a new life. May you continue helping many families like ours.\u201d She said with so much gratitude.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
