Until recently, Sofiya led a life like many teenagers: she went to school, had friends, and looked after her younger brother Daniel, who is four years her junior. Since her mother was a single parent, the family faced some financial challenges, but overall, Sofiya lived without any serious worries. But that changed abruptly when her mother ended up in the hospital after a serious accident. She had suffered third-degree burns and could no longer walk. Even after several surgeries, her mother remained confined to a wheelchair.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n Overnight, Sofiya had to take care of her mother, who could no longer move. She had to cook, clean, and do everything for her. This came as a huge shock to the girl. In an instant, her childhood\u00a0seemed to be\u00a0over<\/strong>, and she was suddenly responsible for everything: her brother, her mother, and the house.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n \u201cWhen my mother had the accident, I was only worried that she would survive and recover quickly. I was afraid that I\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0be able to go to school anymore and\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0have a future. I worried that I\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0be able to handle it all.<\/strong> I was also afraid of giving injections and changing bandages. Over time, though, I got used to it and it became easier,\u201d Sofiya says.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Unfortunately, the 15-year-old\u2019s fears plagued her for a long time: the fear that something might happen to her mother if she wasn\u2019t careful, or that something terrible might happen to her little brother while she was with her mother; on top of that, fears about her own future.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n A woman from the local Baptist church was so moved by the family\u2019s plight that she contacted the Bright Way Center and told the staff about them: about the mother who couldn\u2019t walk, had two children, and was facing eviction from the house she had rented.\u00a0That is how Sofiya\u2019s family came into contact with the project.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n CBN supports the work of the Bright Way Center, which is dedicated to helping children and their families from socially disadvantaged groups and sharing the love of Jesus with them in practical ways. The center offers humanitarian, psychological, and counseling\u00a0assistance\u00a0and organizes various clubs and groups that promote the development of children and adolescents.<\/strong> It also\u00a0monitors\u00a0at-risk families\u00a0participating\u00a0in the project and supports parents in\u00a0providing for\u00a0their children, for example, with food and medical aid.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The team helped Sofiya\u2019s family find new housing and supported them in their daily lives.<\/strong> The girl joined the teen club, where she was able not only to relax but also to grow and develop. Sofiya also received free clothing and school supplies. The center was also able to arrange surgery for her mother, which may help her walk again in the future.
