Surviving the winter<\/h1>\n

With temperatures as low as -20\u00b0C and targeted attacks on infrastructure, people are fighting for their very survival. The situation in Ukraine is currently coming to a dramatic head.<\/p>\n

A voice from Ukraine<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

The media reports little about it, and admittedly, many people probably can no longer bear to hear about the ongoing hardship in Ukraine. Right now, it is important that we do not look away. \u201cWe are currently experiencing the most difficult situation in Ukraine since the beginning of the war,\u201d<\/strong> Maria* informed us. At the moment, temperatures are as low as 20\u00b0C below zero. There are increased attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, leaving many places without electricity and functioning heating<\/strong>. People are literally freezing to death in their own homes.<\/strong> Kyiv is particularly hard hit by the attacks.<\/p>\n

Maria* a<\/b>n employee of the CBN relief organization Operation Blessing wrote us the following heartbreaking lines:<\/strong><\/p>\n

I don’t even know how to pray for this situation anymore\u2014it’s unbelievable that this is actually happening here.<\/b><\/p>\n

I live with my children in western Ukraine, where the situation is currently somewhat better. We have just had seven hours without electricity, and this morning we were without power for about three hours. As crazy as it may sound, compared to what is happening in Kyiv and other cities, it almost feels like “paradise” here.<\/p>\n

In Kiev, the city administration is calling on people to leave the city if possible (Kiev has around 3 million inhabitants).<\/b> In many neighborhoods, water had to be drained from non-functioning heating systems to prevent pipes from bursting in sub-zero temperatures.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What we can do<\/h2>\n

February marks the fourth anniversary of the start of the war. For almost four years, our colleagues have been working tirelessly to be there for their compatriots, to help those who fall through the cracks, those who are most in need.<\/b> In online meetings, we repeatedly notice how challenging this is for them and how exhausted they are. Nevertheless, they keep going, providing people with food and warm clothing and supporting children and families.<\/p>\n

There is little we can do except pray for them and support their work.<\/b> And that is why we would like to ask you too: for your prayers and, if it is in your heart, for a donation.<\/p>\n
